Johannesburg - The Falcons ran riot over the Limpopo Blue Bulls as 11 tries helped them to an emphatic 69-7 (half time 40-0) victory in their Vodacom Cup match at the Merensky High School ground in Tzaneen on Saturday.
No 8 JP Mostert claimed a career first four tries amid the mauling, while former Cheetahs right wing Jongi Nokwe crossed the whitewash on three occasions.
The bonus point win in the battle at the bottom helped the Falcons up to sixth place in the Northern Conference, while the men from Limpopo entrenched themselves as wooden spoonists, and are still to put a point on the board.
Incidentally, it was the home side who had the chance to take the lead in the early stages, but fullback Bronwyn Craill's penalty was wide, and flanker Marco van Eeden punished Limpopo as he dotted down in the fifth minute.
Left-winger Arno Poley joined his team-mate on the try-scorers sheet five minutes later, before Mostert opened his account as he crashed over in the 14th minute.
His brace, and the bonus point, were secured 10 minutes later, and by the time flyhalf Juan Kotze converted, the visitors were all but out of sight with the score at 26-0.
However, the first-half carnage was not yet complete, as Mostert sealed his hat-trick, before fullback Russel van Wyk scored on the stroke of half time to make it 40-0 at the break.
Nokwe then kicked into gear, as he scored his first just two minutes after the restart. Substitute Rudi Grobler gave the home crowd of 250 something to cheer about as he got his team on the board in the 52nd minute.
However, it was merely brief respite as Nokwe wrapped up a hat-trick of his own within the next 10 minutes.
Mostert was not to be outdone though, and the big eighth man had his fourth in the 76th minute, before centre Coert Cronje completed the thrashing with a score one minute from time.
