East London - Kurt Coleman scored 16 points as DHL Western Province eased past the Border Bulldogs 31-7 (half-time 17-0) in their Vodacom Cup South Section match at the BCM Stadium in East London on Saturday.

Flyhalf Coleman scored two tries and succeeded with three conversion attempts as Province maintained their unbeaten start to the competition as they claimed their fourth consecutive win.

Coleman, as well as scoring more than half of his team’s points, also turned in a polished flyhalf display as he dictated play with his accurate kicking out of hand on a pitch which turned into a mud bath after rain in the first half.

The hosts slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat and will rue a succession of handling errors which cut short many of their attacking ambitions while their inability to hold onto possession from their own set-pieces in the second half will be a concern for the home team.

Province scored the first try of the match as early as the ninth minute when flank Nic Fenton-Wells crashed over for an unconverted score.

It took the visitors, playing with a stiff breeze at their backs, until 10 minutes before the break to score once again with Coleman on hand to nab his first try.

Three minutes later Province scrumhalf Nic Groom scored a splendid individual try when he chased through his own kick ahead as the visitors reached half-time holding a formidable 17-point lead.

Province effectively wrapped up the contest soon after the restart when Coleman rounded off a sweeping backline move before converting his own try.

Fifteen minutes into the half flank Don Armand barrelled his way over for a converted try for the visitors before replacement flank Rynardt van Wyk grabbed a late consolation try for the hosts.

Border Bulldogs:

Try: Rynardt van Wyk
Conversion: Louis Kruger
Western Province:

Tries: Kurt Coleman (2), Nic Fenton-Wells, Nic Groom, Don Armand
Conversions: Coleman (3)
