Bulls demolish Limpopo

Pretoria - The Blue Bulls ran in 18 tries in a 116-0 demolition over the Limpopo Blue Bulls in their Vodacom Cup North Section match at Loftus Versveld B in Pretoria on Friday.

The hosts led 62-0 at the half-time 62-0 interval.

The win assured the Blue Bulls of a place in the quarter-finals but heaped further misery on Limpopo who were coming off a 110-0 loss at the hands of the Golden Lions.

Wing Sampie Mastriet ran in a hat-trick of tries for the hosts while inside centre Burger Odendaal and flank Wiaan Liebenberg both dotted down twice.

The hosts raced to a 12-0 lead within three minutes thanks to tries from outside centre Waylon Murray and tighthead prop Hencus van Wyk.

Fullback Clayton Blommetjies then streaked over for a converted try in the seventh minute before Burger Odendaal crashed over for his first try of the half.

The Blue Bulls were running rampant and Odendaal grabbed his second try in the 20th minute to stretch the home team's lead to 33-0.

The flood of points continued as lock David Bulbring forced his way over in the corner for an unconverted try before flank Wiaan Liebenberg was mauled over for a converted score.

The Blue Bulls brought up their half-century of points thanks to a try from left wing Jesse Kriel.

Mastriet completed the first-half scoring with two tries in the dying minutes of the half as the hosts reached the break leading by 62 points.

The second-half produced much the same as the first and it was not long before the Blue Bulls added to their try tally with scrumhalf Lohan Jacobs nipping over a converted try shortly after the restart.

Eighthman Clyde Davids then dotted down after a pushover try in the 49th minute.

Replacement flyhalf Joshua Stander went over for a try that he converted himself to make the score 83-0 after 61 minutes.

The hosts then ran away with the contest thanks to tries from flank Reniel Hugo and replacements Arno van Wyk and Kefentse Mahlo with Mastriet completing his hat-trick in the 76th minute.
