'Oupa' the Player that Rocks

Cape Town - UFS-Shimlas skipper and all-action flank Teboho 'Oupa' Mohoje has been named as the Varsity Cup Player that Rocks for 2013 following a dominant season.

The dynamic loose forward, who was invaluable on both attack and defence for the Bloemfontein side this year, held off the challenge of NMMU captain Roy Godfrey and versatile Maties forward Reniel Hugo to claim the award.

Hugo's team may have gone down to a rampant Tuks side in the final, but the converted lock who packed down at No 8 in Stellenbosch got some consolation when he was named as the Forward that Rocks.

Hugo's challengers for that title were Mohoje and tireless Wits loose forward Carel Greeff, but the Maties ace's consistent contributions throughout the season saw him recognised as the top forward in the competition.

The award for Back that Rocks went to physical NMMU centre Howard Mnisi, whose presence in the midfield was crucial to his team's best-ever Varsity Cup campaign which saw them reach the semi-final for the first time.

The voting was split between the public, the players and the Varsity Cup Exco with the public vote making up 40% of the total and the input of the players themselves and the Varsity Cup Exco counting a further 30% each.

The awards brought an end to a high-octane evening of Varsity Rugby which saw Vishuis claim their third "Koshuirugby Championship" before Tuks retained their Varsity Cup title with a resounding 44-5 victory over Maties in Stellenbosch.
