Steyn features in Racing loss

2010-08-21 09:02

Cape Town - Frans Steyn played fullback for his French club Racing Metro in their 36-19 defeat to Montpellier on Friday night.

According to Steyn was expected to join the Bok squad for the remaining matches of the Tri-Nations, despite apparently being injured for today’s match against the All Blacks in Soweto, but he has been missing from training all week.

It has since emerged that he had returned to France and it now looks highly unlikely that he will return to South Africa for the two home matches against Australia.

  • PRO - 2010-08-21 09:35

Frans is a young working man who plays rugby to earn a living. He must apply his trade where he is respected as a rugby player. I recommend all rugby players to follow his view of playing rugby. South Africa does not care a dam what happens to any rugby player after they are used. It's time rugby players started planning and playing for their familes and future. Well done Frans I support you all the way, give amatuer SARU a kick in the butt.

steyn threw his toys out of the cot when his own shark fans started to boo him when he attemted his one hundred drop kick and he subsequently left for france after the sharks refused to play him in the position he tell me how the hell can a coach go to war with a piece of shit like that.hougaard is a warrior and the boks need more players like that....and that's coming from a province supporter!

  • Lew - 2010-08-21 10:03

Frans won the ultimate prize in rugby - the world cup - at an extremely young age ( ala Aussie Tim Horan ). Now is the time to focus and grow up and realise his massive talent and come home and stake a claim for the next world cup.He has that X factor +++++++++++++.

  • Ivan - 2010-08-21 10:04

Frans is playing the Benny Mc Carthy card. Playing hard to get. Its all labout money! Just hope he does not get too fat and unfit inthe process.

  • Munch - 2010-08-21 10:14

He has his commitments. In order to play as a springbok, he has to get permission to be released, and as far as I recall, Pieter did not give Metro enough notice to get Steyn released, don't blame Steyn for not playing for the Springboks. Right now I thing SA misses him.

  • Chrissie - 2010-08-21 10:24

  • Me2 - 2010-08-21 10:30

    @ PRO.....agree with you 100%!

  • Shark - 2010-08-21 10:30

@the hanlo: Jy kon maar gestop het by "en ek is 'n Bul supporter..." die probleem is nie die spelers nie ou maat, dis by die coach.

  • Steph - 2010-08-21 10:30

  • @ the hanlo - 2010-08-21 10:51

  • MRT - 2010-08-21 10:56

The media's role in the whole Frans Steyn saga causes more harm than good; stop reporting BS and leave the poor guy alone! You guys are blowing this way out of proportion.

  • nic - 2010-08-21 11:12

Way to give Snor the finger, I would too.. @ The Hanlo, I am sure you were saying this in last year's Tri-Nations when he booted thos bombs over to win the game for us against the AB's. Terreblanche is a player like Wynand who is great at provincial level who is sadly nowhere at international level ...Steyn can be averae at times but has the ability to really turn it on...something beyond BMT...Forme it is sad that this little twat is F*@#ing up a winning team....with the players we have and the depth we have it really takes talent to get this team to lose....Well done Snor...

  • 407 in Dubai - 2010-08-21 11:22

  • war - whites against racism - 2010-08-21 11:33

Its better, keep him up our sleeve for 2011 world cup. And to all you negative Safricans go suck. This year we are struggling, next year we are the only team to defend a world cup successfully. Watch this space

  • brad - 2010-08-21 11:45

Only since PDV started selecting players from abroad has this Steyn issue come into play! Yes if he wants to play in Europe for big money then he should be willing to sacrifice the green and gold jersey for the 10 million plus rands he gets annually. It was always the way it worked!! why change it now!! The two other teams that apply that rule to there players are Australia and New Zealand....It keeps the players loyal!!!! It also keeps there feet on the ground! Steyn may be a good player but is also the most arrogant player around by far!!

  • Ray - 2010-08-21 12:04

Frans is innocently caught up in the media and rugby politics. With the biggest blame pointing to SA Rugby and Pieter de Villiers. If SA Rugby had done things properly, Frans would be playing. Just remember he wants to play for his country very badly, so attack the French and SA Rugby not him. He is a wonderful young player and still has a lot to offer for his country when he comes back from his experience if France. I also think it is time to change national coaches.

  • dkkw - 2010-08-21 12:29

  • STORMER - 2010-08-21 12:36

@Chrissie - crikey you are a blow up Barbie doll...(Might I take a wild guess and state that YOU SUPPORT THE BULLS?) If you rate rugby players on their looks....I just wonder how sad your little life is... Now run along, wash the dished, wipe your fat kiddies backsides and iron your hubby's jocks, as it is glaringly obvious you know NOTHING about the sport, you Centurion poppie.

  • Also a Stormer - 2010-08-21 13:22

@Stormer. Like mine your comment has absolutely nothing to do with the article but a rather unnecessary attack on a fellow blogger who has attempted to add a bit of light heartedness to this blog. Comments like yours puts the name of Stormer Supporters in a bad light and places you at the level of those that you attempt to berate - ie the BB supporters!

  • dkkw - 2010-08-21 13:54

@STORMER, hoop jy voel nou beter nadat jy daai groot wind gelos het.

  • Coenie - 2010-08-21 14:00

The interesting part is that Steyn wasn't still injured for this weekend. It was said that he would be able to practice again as from last Wednesday, which made him available for selection this weekend. This meant that he could not practice with the boks, but could have been available for them for this game against the AB's, had SA rugby requested for his release in time. So, all of you, stop blaiming him for this spectacle. And I think he is much better off staying right where he is. This lot of clowns at SARU is the laughing stock of the world. Ecspecially now again with their threats to withdraw from SANZAR.

  • Mark - 2010-08-21 14:16

  • 007 - 2010-08-21 15:20

Frans comes across as I racist that will not play for a clown of a coach, dont know him but that is how it comes across in the press... agree with Scorpion 100% we need more players like Hougaard with big hearts, enough of the "all balls & no dick " type of players of which Bakkies is class captain

  • Mr Ragga - 2010-08-21 15:50

FS verdien 7.5 Miljoen /jaar waar hy nou is......hoekom sal hy dan moeite doen vir 2.5..Miljoen..(Maks.)om hier te speel....RED......en after all...hy ontwillek daar baie meer ..op heelagter as wat sy eie BOK-afrigter hom hier wil toelaat...ek seker FS se elke aan Dankie"...vir so wyse Bok-breier...Lol

  • Shayne - 2010-08-21 17:59

There is more to this story than what we are being told. Steyn has great pride in playing for South Africa. One day the truth to this will all be revealed. And when that day comes everyone who has ever bashed him will choke. anyway busy watching the game.. go Bokke!!

  • BradMan4RSA - 2010-08-21 19:40

Steyn is a talent that should be in any rugby team. I rekon he will do it for the love of his country. Something does not sit right here. I am proud of all Mzanzi ppl. Lets build this country. I faced the bullets of the National government & now I fight the current government as a volunteer! Viva RSA lets unite against all that is not right!!!!!!!!!

  • Emile - 2010-08-21 19:53

What is going on here? Who is fooling who? Couldn't play for the Boks because he was injured then he turns out for his club. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth and if Steyn has anything to do with this, then he should f@#k off for good.

  • @ Stormer - 2010-08-21 20:01

You are really a piece of rubbish. You pathetic attitude towards anything remotely related to the Bulls are so pathetic. Grow up and maybe then you will find some pleasure in life and rugby. I don't laugh with you, I laugh at you.
