'One positive' from Bok tour

Cape Town - Two former Springboks believe there is at least one positive that could be taken out of the Springboks' recent Australasian tour.

The South Africans were beaten 39-20 and 40-7 by the Wallabies and the All Blacks respectively.

Former Bok hooker John Allan says coach Peter de Villiers will at least now know which players ought to be going to the World Cup and which should rather stay behind.

"His choice of selection is now limited, which will make his final decision easier, because two-thirds of the players he took along on the recent tour are definitely not good enough to go to the World Cup," Allan told the Beeld newspaper.

Another former Springbok, Corné Krige, echoed Allan's views. Krige said the last two Tests (against Australia and New Zealand) showed how big the gap between the first-choice players and the rest, is.

"At least De Villiers now has a much better idea on his player-depth," said Krige.

Krige said he also felt many of the injured Boks who missed the last two Tests should have been given more time to rest during the Super Rugby competition, so they could have been ready for the Tri-Nations.
