Matfield will become the third Springbok to reach the milestone when he runs on at Loftus Versfeld for the Tri-Nations game against Australia and follows on Bok captain John Smit’s milestone last weekend.
Du Toit wished Matfield well for the milestone and congratulated him on being an outstanding example for South African sportspersons.
“Victor has been one of the most successful sportsmen in South African history. He is an amazing leader, a talented player and a person who inspires the rest of us to achieve greater heights,” Du Toit said.
“I think it is amazing that he has achieved this milestone and can’t wait to get to Loftus Versfeld on Saturday and support him and our Springbok team as they face the Wallabies.”
Du Toit sent a special message to Matfield and his team-mates as they face tough odds after losing against New Zealand in Soweto last weekend.
“I am always reminded of a famous saying: There is one grand lie - that we are limited. The only limits we have are the limits we believe.
Victor has shown us time and again, whether it be for the Bulls or the Springboks, that as part of a team, they can achieve anything.
“I hope every South African will join me in applauding this achievement. It is a proud moment for us all as sporting supporters and I will definitely be wearing my Green and Gold Bok jersey with pride on Saturday.”
Du Toit also achieved success last week when she swam to six gold medals at the IPC World Swimming Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
