Cape Town - SANZAR is to extend the half-time breaks during the 2011 Tri-Nations from 10 to 12 minutes.
The change has been made to assist the All Blacks, Springboks and Wallabies in adjusting to a longer half-time break during the forthcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
The International Rugby Board (IRB) confirmed on Friday that the half-time length at the tournament, starting on 9 September, would be increased to 12 minutes.
SANZAR CEO, Greg Peters, said the Tri-Nations presented a perfect opportunity to assist players and managements in adjusting to the change.
"During Super Rugby we have had 10 minute breaks and it therefore made sense for us to trial the new format during the Tri-Nations. The idea has been well received and supported by our partner Unions whose respective teams will put the finishing touches to their Rugby World Cup planning during this year's Tri-Nations," Peters said.
The 2011 Tri-Nations kicks off of 23 July when Australia host South Africa in Sydney.
