Wellington - New Zealand utility back Richard Kahui could be set for a Tri-Nations return after doctors said his shoulder injury may keep him out for only three to four weeks.
The 25-year-old injured his right shoulder in the All Blacks' 32-12 victory in the Tri-Nations opener against South Africa but would not require surgery, New Zealand Rugby Union said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Richard sustained a small fracture of the shoulder socket but the good news is that the injury is stable and improving rapidly," New Zealand team doctor Deb Robinson said in a statement on Tuesday.
Kahui, who came on as a second half replacement against South Africa, was replaced by Highlanders fullback Israel Dagg for the All Blacks' 31-17 win in their second Test against the Springboks on Saturday.
New Zealand head the Tri-Nations standings after their two bonus point home victories over South Africa. They face the Springboks in Johannesburg on August 21, a likely return date for Kahui.
