Sydney - The Wallabies preparations for their Tri-Nations clash with South Africa on Saturday received a setback on Friday when influential flyhalf Quade Cooper missed training suffering from a bout of gastritis.
However, the playmaker is expected to be fit for Saturday’s Test. A team spokesperson said that Cooper’s stomach bug “was not considered major at this stage,” and that the team doctor was confident that Cooper would be ready for the Test.
Australia skipper Rocky Elsom said that Cooper’s absence from training was simply a precautionary measure and did not cause too many problems at training.
“It wasn’t too much of a disruption. You have got to be able to deal with that. If he’s not feeling that well then it is probably best that he just gets better and feels better tomorrow. It was probably a good move not to train but I think he’ll be fine for tomorrow,” said Elsom.
The 23-year-old Cooper has scored 41 points in his 24 Test matches.
