Cape Town - Pictures and video extracts from the Springboks' Tri-Nations defeat to Australia suggest flank Schalk Burger could consider himself fortunate not to have joined team-mate Jaque Fourie in being cited post-match.
In this video, Burger and Wallaby flank David Pocock tangle off the ball. Pocock is seen to pin Burger down with an elbow to the throat, before Burger reaches out with his right hand, making contact with Pocock's face.
The incident went unnoticed by referee George Clancy and his two assistants and neither player was cited after the Test.
Burger, 27, has previously fallen foul of a similar indiscretion.
During the opening minute of the second British and Irish Lions Test at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, Burger made contact with the eyes of Lions wing Luke Fitzgerald. Burger was subsequently cited by the commissioning officer, but cleared of eye gouging, but was found guilty of "making contact with the eye area" and was handed an eight week ban.
