Being a Bok is a privilege

Bloemfontein – He may have had a bit of Springbok rollercoaster ride of late, but Gio Aplon is determined to wear the Green and Gold with distinction against the Wallabies on Saturday.

“It’s an opportunity for me. It’s not a right to play for the Springboks, but a privilege,” Aplon said about team management’s decision to pick him on the substitutes’ bench this week.

Aplon takes the place of the injured Butch James on the bench for the clash in Bloemfontein.

He rejects criticism that the Boks’ gameplan is predictable.

“What is good about the Boks is that there is structure. But the coach still gives you freedom to express your talents and potential within that structure,” said Aplon.

He therefore hopes to keep the Aussie defence very busy should he get on the field.
