Whiteley: We were our own worst enemy

Johannesburg - Lions captain Warren Whiteley was not overly happy with his side's performance in their 26-19 win over the Sharks on Saturday.

The Lions were far from their best but still managed to secure the win despite having struggled at lineout time while they also made errors at crucial stages.

Whiteley, playing his first Super Rugby match since the groin injury he picked up in June last year, said after the match that there was a lot of room for improvement,

"I’m happy with the result. It’s a great result for us," he said.

"The Sharks are a quality side all over the park. I knew it was going to be a high-pressure game.

"I just feel that we put ourselves under pressure a lot of the time and we were our own worst enemy."

The Lions must now regroup before they host the Jaguares on Saturday.

"Happy with the win and proud of the guys at the end there, but Monday will be a fresh start again and next week is going to be a tough win and a bit different to this game," Whiteley added.
