Walker in astonishing return - at 43?

Cape Town - Former Wallaby wing Andrew Walker, 43, has revealed he would be open to an astonishing return to Super Rugby with the Brumbies this year.

The veteran, who hasn't played professional rugby since 2008, competed in the Brisbane 10s last week and feels he's in decent condition.

Stephen Larkham's Brumbies are without both Lausii Taliauli and Tomás Cubelli due to injury and Walker thinks he still has a lot to offer.

"I haven't really stopped playing footy, so my fitness is pretty high," he told the Canberra Times.

"I've probably lost about 10 percent of speed, but I make up for that with experience. We can do things with the Brumbies and set it back on the right track again.

"The fire is still blazing, as soon as I threw the jumper on last weekend it turned into a bonfire. I was thinking, 'how good is this?'.

"I really, really love the Brumbies so if there was anything I could do to help, then I'd do it in a heartbeat."

The Brumbies have lost a great deal of experience in the shape of Stephen Moore, David Pocock and Matt Toomua going into 2017. And Walker, who is still playing rugby league in Brisbane, thinks his body could cope if a call came.

"I know it's a big ask to be coming back at 43 years old, but my body is holding up really well. I was a bit sore after the 10s but I'm already training again," he added.
