Stormers players cleared for playoffs

Cape Town - The Stormers have been given a boost ahead of their Super Rugby quarter-final against the Chiefs on Saturday.

There had been some concern surrounding the availability of the players that have played less than four matches this regular season.

The Sharks have been told that they cannot select Pat Lambie for their quarter-final against the Chiefs (he has only played three games) while the Chiefs will not be allowed to field Liam Messam (he has played just once).

According to Times LIVE, the Stormers sent SANZAAR a letter seeking clarity on some of their players and the feedback is positive.

Jaco Taute, Robert du Preez, Jean Kleyn and Daniel du Plessis have all been cleared to play despite having featured less than four times this season.

That is because they were a part of an original squad of players forwarded to SANZAAR at the start of the season.

It is particularly good news for the Stormers in that Taute is the replacement fullback for Sevens-bound Chelsin Kolbe while Du Preez will likely be needed to make his first appearance since week 2 following injury to Jean-Luc du Plessis.

Dan du Plessis could also feature in the quarters following injury to Kobus van Wyk against the Kings on Saturday.

Chris van Zyl and Scott van Breda are not eligible to play, but they were unlikely to have featured anyway.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
