Ruan Ackermann set to join dad in England

Cape Town - Lions loose forward Ruan Ackermann looks set to join his dad Johan at English club Gloucester.

Johan Ackermann will join the English Premiership club this week, having ended his tenure at the Lions after the weekend’s 25-17 Super Rugby final loss to the Crusaders

According to Afrikaans Sunday newspaper, Rapport, Ackermann junior has accepted a “competitive” offer from Gloucester and he will join them ahead of the 2017/18 European season.

English website, Gloucestershire Live, last week reported that Gloucester were looking to add additions to their squad.

Gloucester currently have a squad of 37 senior players with CEO Stephen Vaughan saying they would be looking to finish with “around 40 to low 40s.”

In the report, 21-year-old Ruan Ackermann was mentioned as a possible signing.

Johan Ackermann will be succeeded as Lions coach by Swys de Bruin, who was the team’s assistant coach for the past five years.
