Returning players boost Stormers

Cape Town - The Stormers will be welcoming back a number of players for Saturday's Super Rugby playoff against the Chiefs at Newlands.

Centre Daniel du Plessis, props Oli Kebble and Frans Malherbe, as well as flank Nizaam Carr will be available for selection this weekend.

Malherbe has not featured since the Springbok series against Ireland where he picked up a neck injury, while Du Plessis returns from concussion.

Carr has been out with an injured shoulder, while Kebble returns from a knee injury.

The bad news is that the Stormers have lost flyhalf Jean-Luc du Plessis.

Du Plessis limped off midway through last Saturday's win over the Kings in Cape Town with an ankle injury and he is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Coach Robbie Fleck confirmed on Monday that his playmaker had gone for scans, but that the extent of the injury would only be known on Monday evening.

Fleck must now choose between Brandon Thomson and Robert du Preez in terms of who starts in the No 10 jersey on Saturday, and he confirmed that a decision would only be taken in the week after careful consideration.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
