More misery in Bloem for Stormers?

    2016-03-02 08:50

Cape Town - The Cheetahs will be looking to make it four Super Rugby home wins in a row against the Stormers when the teams clash in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Many pundits are picking a Stormers win on Saturday, especially after the Cape side’s 33-9 mauling of the Bulls at Newlands last weekend.

However, recent history shows that the men from Cape Town have struggled in Super Rugby games in Bloemfontein.

Their last win over the Cheetahs there was in 2012, when they emerged 13-6 victors.

But the Cheetahs have won their last three home games against the Stormers in the competition, winning 26-24 in 2013, 35-22 in 2014 and 25-17 in 2015 when Kurt Coleman misfired badly with the boot.

If a warm-up match in 2013 is factored in, then it is four home wins in a row for the Cheetahs over the Stormers. On that day, Hansie Graaff kicked a long penalty after the hooter to sneak a 27-26 win for the Cheetahs.

The Cheetahs suffered a 34-33 home loss to the Jaguares last weekend, but according to loose forward Boom Prinsloo, they are eager to maintain their winning run at home against the Stormers.

“It’s always special to beat the Stormers because they are one of the big teams in the competition. I don’t know why, but for some or other reason when we play them here (Bloemfontein), we always pitch up and surprise them," Prinsloo told Netwerk24.
