Melbourne - Wallabies and Rebels backrow Sean McMahon is set to make a decision on his future within the next few weeks.
The 22-year-old has reportedly received a big money offer from a Japanese club which could be worth $1 million.
He has not commented about moving overseas but did not rule out moving to the Reds - where he started his career as a junior - if the Rebels are axed from Super Rugby.
It has been reported that McMahon did not receive an adequate offer from the Australian Rugby Union (ARU). He said the Rebels' future was not the main factor in his decision making.
"It will affect my position a little bit but not really," McMahon told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"If it came down to it the only other place I would like to head back to would be Queensland but I love Melbourne, I love the Rebels as a side and I love all the lads here."
Japan's Top League is scheduled to take place from late August until early February and there have been players like Wallaby fly-half Bernard Foley who has played in that competition but returned to in time for the start of Super Rugby.
McMahon said the thought of playing in Japan has not crossed his mind and he would speculate what he would be doing in the build-up to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
"I haven't thought that far ahead and I'm not going to speculate on that at this point in time," he said.
McMahon said several of team-mates were battling to decide on their future as the ARU were mulling on the decision to axe the Rebels or Force from next year's Super Rugby tournament.
The ARU has stopped all sides from re-signing players unless they are Wallabies, which has made things more uncertain.
"There is a lot of uncertainty here and boys are trying to make decisions but you have to wait and see what will happen down the track," added McMahon.
"Especially for a lot of the young lads here, they will need to see what happens with the team.
"It's a great team out here, we are a family and we are all from different places in the world but we love it here.
"We love Melbourne."
