Matfield offers Lions some advice

Cape Town - Former Springbok captain Victor Matfield has given the Lions some advice ahead of their Super Rugby final clash with the Hurricanes on Saturday.

Finals are won by players who can perform under pressure and, according to Matfield, the Lions have shown over the last two weekends they possess those players.

"There will be a lot of pressure on Saturday and you never know if you will ever get the chance again to play in a final," Matfield told Netwerk24.

"Sometimes you only get one chance which could be the difference between winning and losing."

Matfield captained the Bulls when they won the Super Rugby tournament in 2007, 2009 and 2010. The Bulls won their three finals against the Sharks, Chiefs and Stormers respectively.

"What we managed to do well in those finals was stick to the things which got us to that point in the first place. Things can go wrong badly if you don't stick to your strengths," he said.

"That's why I hope the rain stays away. It will count against the Lions if the field is wet and heavy under foot."

Matfield said the Lions will need to make sure their preparation is spot on and they also need to spend enough time in the Westpac Stadium before the game.
