Lobberts blow for Cheetahs

Cape Town - The Cheetahs have suffered a blow with the news that loose forward Hilton Lobberts’ season is over due to a shoulder injury.

According to Netwerk24, Lobberts picked up a serious shoulder injury in last Friday’s loss to the Rebels in Melbourne which could keep him sidelined for up to a year.

Lobberts, 29, broke a bone in his shoulder in the 15th minute of the match, which the Rebels won 36-14.

Loose forward Willie Britz has been flown to Australia as injury cover.

The Cheetahs are already without the services of Boom Prinsloo, whose season is over due to a serious hamstring injury.

“We’ll miss Lobberts. It’s very bad for the team, but it creates an opportunity for another player, as was the case with Boom’s injury,” said Cheetahs coach Franco Smith.

“We’ll have to see who we use. With regards to Willie, we’ll see how well he fits into our structure this coming week.”

The Cheetahs face the Reds in Brisbane this Saturday (kick-off 11:45 SA time).
