What an extraordinary comeback from the Lions to secure a home final against the Crusaders next week. However the two players who normally control the play for the Hurricanes made the critical mistakes today. Welcome to our live coverage of the second semi-final, in the 2017 Super Rugby competition, between the Lions and the Hurricanes, from Emirates Airlines Park, in Johannesburg. The Crusaders beat the Chiefs in the first semi-final earlier. If the Lions win then they will host the Crusaders in the final next week, however if they fail to come away with a win, then the Hurricanes will have to travel to Christchurch.
The Hurricanes have beaten the Lions in their last eight meetings and have won four of their last five games in South Africa. The last time these teams met was in last years final when the Hurricanes won in a very wet and miserable Wellington.
What is more significant is that this will be the first time the Lions will face New Zealand opposition in this years competition and that must be a grave concern.
The Lions will be unchanged today and will field the same starting line-up that beat the Sharks last week. They will however need improved performances from their impact players. There can be no doubt that they still miss their inspirational captain Warren Whiteley. Jaco Kriel will again be the Lions captain today.
Dane Coles will captain the Hurricanes in what will be his 100th appearance. Coles replaces Ricky Riccitelli. Vince Aso returns from a groin injury, while Corey Jane replaces Julian Savea, who moves to the bench. Aso will play at centre with Jordie Barrett moving to full-back and Nehe Milner-Skudder playing on the right wing with Wes Goosen shifting to the left.
