Bulls wing Bjorn Basson for scoring a hat-trick of tries.
Thanks for tuning in!
The Bulls have a bye next weekend, while the Rebels face the hapless Reds at home.
73'- Rebels sub: Kotaro Matsushima on for Jack Debreczeni.
The Rebels pivot started well but his poor goal-kicking seems to have affected his play now as well.
68'- Debreczeni misses another easy conversion attempt. His goal-kicking has bee terrible to say the least.
Bulls 45-25 Rebels
62'- PENALTY slotted by Brummer.
Bulls 45-20 Rebels
56'- Another poor conversion attempt by Debreczeni.
Bulls 42-20 Rebels
53'- Two more tries for the Rebels and the Bulls would lose their bonus point.
According to the new rules, teams must score three more tries to gain a bonus point.
52'- A dreadful conversion attempt from Debreczeni though.
Bulls 42-15 Rebels
49'- CONVERSION slotted by Debreczeni.
Bulls 42-10 Rebels
46'- CONVERSION slotted by Brummer.
Bulls 42-3 Rebels
42'- CONVERSION slotted by Brummer.
Bulls 35-3 Rebels
41'- TRY to the Bulls!
Welcome back for the second half!
Brummer gets play started...
A poor second half in which they squandered a bonus point will take a little shine off this convincing victory for the Bulls. But a win at home against a quality side was always their first objective. The Rebels did well to recover from the pummeling they received in the first 60 minutes and can actually take some pride from their second half performance.
Very poor play from the Bulls from the penalty scrum. Awful play in fact, losing possession cheaply. There''''s a turnover penalty awarded to the Rebels.
Nice break by Serfontein. He wins his team some vital ground. The ball is spread the other way from the breakdown and it's a penalty for the Bulls after some desperate defending from the visitors.
Bit of a scrappy end to the match. Both teams looking like they are running out of steam a bit.
Had the Rebels flyhalf converted all his opportunities, his team would have been in a realistic position for a comeback here. That''s 9 points he''s cost his side.
And would you believe it? Debreczeni misses another conversion. Shocking.
TRY, REBELS, MEEHAN! 42-25: Lovely running and awful defending results in the Bulls losing their bonus point. Meehan gets his second.
The Rebels are looking far more composed in defense now.
It's been 9 minutes since we've had a try. Astonishing.
PENALTY, BULLS, BRUMMER! 45-20: Brummer steps up and slots the ball perfectly through the posts.
Good period of play from the Bulls now and they are rewarded with a penalty right in front of the posts for a side entry by Toby Smith.
It's been all Rebels since Basson's 45th minute interception.
Another awful conversion attempt from Debreczeni. Costs his team another 2 points.
TRY, REBELS, HANSON! 42-20: Penalty for the Rebels now and Debreczeni finds touch on the 5 meter line. They spread the ball wide and build immense pressure on the Bulls defense. But the home side can't keep Hanson out. He drives low and manages to get the ball onto the tryline.
How on earth did Debreczeni miss that conversion? That was very poor.
TRY, REBELS, MEEHAN! 42-15: A penalty on the 5 meter line is taken quickly by Ben Meehan after he notices the Bulls defenders not paying attention.
CONVERSION, REBELS, DEBRECZENI! 42-10: An easy kick for the flyhalf.
TRY, REBELS, PLACID! 42-8: The Rebels'' replacement fullback gets over the tryline. Hero on the on the other end of the field, Basson, turns villain as his tackle is shrugged off with the greatest of ease to give the Rebels 5 points.
CONVERSION, BULLS, BRUMMER! 42-3: Easy as you like.
TRY, BULLS, BASSON! 40-3: There's the intercept and there's the hat-trick for Basson. A terrible, speculative pass from Mitch Inman and that's bread and butter stuff for the winger.
CONVERSION, BULLS, BRUMMER! 35-3: Not an easy kick tight on the touchline but the flyhalf makes no mistake.
TRY, BULLS, BASSON! 33-3: Terrific work from Gellant. Gets the chip kick through after he and Basson were running out of space on the left. The winger gets a kind bounce and has no trouble dotting the ball down for his second of the match.
TRY, BULLS, KIRSTEN! 26-3: And another in the corner! Opposite side this time. More of the same from the Bulls who simply cannot be stopped when spreading the ball around. Kirsten carries well and his pass goes wide to Gelant before dropping back inside for the flanker to score. The TMO has to have a look first to check it wasn''t knocked on, but he can''t find a reason NOT to award the try.
CONVERSION, BULLS, BRUMMER! 28-3: Yet another for the fly-half.
An absolutely dominant performance from the Bulls. Their supporters will be mighty pleased after last week's loss. The Rebels haven't featured in the match yet. In any way.
BULLS 28-3 REBELS
Second half. Here we go.
CONVERSION, BULLS, BRUMMER! 21-3: No mistake again from Brummer.
TRY, BULLS, ISMAIEL! 19-3: The try is awarded to the winger, but it was the big prop Marcel van der Merwe''s terrific overhead offload that put him into space. Always nice to see a forward exhibit a bit of skill like that.
The Bulls win ground very regularly when the ball is spread about by their backline. Something the Rebels haven't been able to do since the oipening minute of the match.
Brummer's chance to miss a penalty. Slightly harder chance for the Bulls flyhalf, some 55 meters from the posts. He gets more than enough on it, but it's comfortably wide.
Missed penalty from Debreczeni. Tight on the near touchline. Not converted.
Well that''s not in the playbook. In fact that might be one of the funniest things I''ve seen on a rugby field. Gellant aims to clear from deep inside his half. Jan Serfointein ducks so as not to interfere with the flight of the ball, but he''s too close to the fullback who kicks the ball right into his backside.
Short break in play as the excellent Rudy Paige's finger dislocated is wrenched back into place.
The Rebels are unable to penetrate the Bulls defense. Making no ground whatsoever despite stringing together 11 phases. They opt to kick for touch. The Bulls win the resultant lineout and a prolonged period of pressure from the Rebels comes to an end.
Lineout for the Rebels after a penalty ended some more good pressure from the Bulls. They are looking dangerous in open play.
CONVERSION, BULLS, BRUMMER! 14-3: Bulls well in control now thanks to those extra two points.
TRY, BULLS, DE JAGER! 12-3:
Another great team try from the home team. Lovely running and crisp offloading gives Nick de Jager a chance. He has no problem shrugging off the challenge from the only remaining defender and gets the ball down.
An entertaining match so far. A bit of a pity Loftus is uncharacteristically empty.
What has happened here? Can you believe it, Rebels flanker Adam Thomson is over the tryline after some excellent work from Tamati Ellison and all he has to do is dot the ball down. He attempts to do so casually, with one hand, and drops the ball for a knock on.
CONVERSION, BULLS, BRUMMER! 7-3: No mistake from the Bulls number ten.
TRY, BULLS, BASSON! 5-3. Lovely team try. Bulls convert some more possession in the Rebels half into five points.
8 phases of possession without much ground won ends with a lovely kick from Rudy Paige which finds touch just before crossing the tryline. The Rebels win the lineout and the Bulls lose some good momentum.
Scrum for the Bulls 5 meters from the Rebels tryline. The first attempt collapses, as does the second. Bulls prop Marcel van der Merwe is penalised and the Bulls lose possession.
PENALTY, REBELS, DEBRECZENI! 0-3: Opening points go to the visitors at Loftus.
Debreczeni breaks the Bulls defence beautifully, but his offload to Inman is poor.
Hello and welcome to today''s coverage of the Super Rugby match between the Bulls and the Rebels. Live from Loftus in Pretoria.
It's warm and sunny in Pretoria.
Rebels'' fullback Reece Hodge has pulled out of the match, making space for Jonah Placid.
Here we go. Referee Ben O'Keefe blows the whistle and the match is underway.
