Lions, Griquas to form partnership?

Cape Town - The possibility exists that the Golden Lions and Griquas will form a partnership, Netwerk24 reports.

This comes after Western Province recently announced a partnership with South Western Districts, which sees the George-based union re-joining the Stormers franchise.

A recent report also indicated that the Blue Bulls and Boland will join forces, with the latter’s relationship with WP believed to have turned sour.

It is believed that there is a big financial incentive from SA Rugby for franchises who opt for such partnerships with the so-called smaller union.

Meanwhile, Cheetahs director of rugby Rory Duncan has confirmed that Free State formed a partnership with the Griffons.

“The most important part of this agreement is the exchange of players. We will make players not part of our 23-man squad in the Currie Cup available for the Griffons,” said Duncan.
