Lions duo not ‘dropped’

Cape Town - Lions coach Johan Ackermann says their squad rotational policy was the reason behind him making two changes ahead of Saturday’s Super Rugby clash against the Sharks in Durban.

Ackermann has made two changes to the team that lost 43-37 at home to the Crusaders last weekend.

The two changes are both in the backline, with Ross Cronje starting at scrumhalf in place of Faf de Klerk, while Rohan Janse van Rensburg also comes in at inside centre for Howard Mnisi.

Both players were guilty of errors in conceding six tries to the Crusaders last weekend, but that was not the reason why they were dropped.

“Both these inclusions are part of the rotational system that we have in place to manage to big squad of players in a very long Vodacom Super Rugby competition,” Ackermann said via a press release on Thursday.

Saturday’s clash at Kings Park is scheduled for 17:05.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
