Lambie's season over for Sharks

Cape Town - It seems that Patrick Lambie's Super Rugby season is over.

The Sharks flyhalf and captain has not played any competitive rugby since he was knocked out cold by CJ Stander in the first Test between the Springboks and Ireland back on June 11.

That moment has become more significant with each passing week, and now it looks almost certain to have robbed the Sharks of their playmaker as they prepare for this week's trip to the Hurricanes and a Super Rugby quarter-final.

SANZAAR protocol states that players have to have been a part of four matchday squads in the regular season to be eligible for the playoffs.

Lambie has been a part of just three, thanks to the shoulder injury that ruled him out of the first half of the campaign.

Lambie was initially bracketed in the matchday squad for Saturday's clash against the Kings in Durban, but in the end he was left out as Curwin Bosch was given the nod.

That moment looks to have sealed Lambie's fate, and unless there is any unexpected leniency from SANZAAR in the next day or two, then August's Rugby Championship will be the nearest possible return for the 25-year-old.

Gold had said last week that Lambie's concussion was "serious" and that he was still displaying symptoms.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
