Joe Pietersen heads to Japan

Durban - Sharks utility back Joe Pietersen is set to head to Japan after this year's Super Rugby tournament to join the Kamaishi Seawaves for the upcoming Japanese season.

According to the supersport.com website, Pietersen is set to join Lions flank Warwick Tecklenburg at the Japanese second division club as their two overseas players as they look to gain promotion to the J-League.

Tecklenburg was at the club last season and has extended his contract at the club for another year.

Both players were part of an extensive list of players for the season released on Wednesday by the club on their website, confirming their move to Japan.

Tecklenburg is likely to return to play for the Lions in Super Rugby, while Pietersen's deal is just for the upcoming season.

The former Stormers and Cheetahs flyhalf is currently negotiating a possible return for Super Rugby as well.
