Highlanders to welcome back Sopoaga

Cape Town - Highlanders flyhalf Lima Sopoaga is due to make his return to action next weekend against the Force in Perth.

Kick-off is at 11:45 (SA time).

The All Blacks No 10 has missed the 2015 champions' last eight matches this season while he recovered from a hamstring strain.

Marty Banks and Fletcher Smith have filled in at flyhalf during Sopoaga's stint on the sidelines, but Highlanders head coach Tony Brown admitted it was exciting to see Sopoaga fit and firing ahead of his return.

"He got through his fitness test really well. He's probably in the best condition he's ever been in, so it's exciting," Brown told the media.

"He's going to come over and join us and have a full week of training with us. Hopefully he's going to be good to go, more than likely off the bench."

A moment of last-gasp brilliance from Malakai Fekitoa clinched Saturday's 17-10 tense win over the Bulls in testing conditions, and as a result the Highlanders remain well in the hunt for a wildcard place.

"We've put ourselves in a good position to really attack this last quarter of the competition," Brown added.

"If we can keep our momentum going and keep performing well, who knows where we can end up and who knows what we can achieve."
