Dick Muir linked with job at Sharks

Cape Town - Former coach Dick Muir could return to the Sharks for next year’s Super Rugby competition.

According to a report on Netwerk24, the Sharks have engaged in discussions with Muir.

It is believed that they want Muir to be one of head coach Robert du Preez’s assistants.

The 52-year-old coached the Sharks for three seasons from 2005-2007, before joining the Springboks as an assistant coach from 2008 to 2011.

This fuels speculation that the Sharks’ current assistant coaches Ryan Strudwick and Sean Everitt will be relieved of their duties. Strudwick's contract comes to an end later this year, while Everitt - whose contract expires in 2018 - could be redeployed.

Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann however refused to comment on the matter.

“Nothing has been finalised. We will make an announcement as soon as there is anything official to report," he said.

Muir, who formerly also coached the Golden Lions, is currently involved as a coach at the Crusaders club in Durban, while he is also Northwood High School’s director of rugby, as well as being the head of the Investec Rugby Academy.

Muir represented the Sharks and Western Province during his playing days and played five Tests for the Springboks on their year-end tour in 1997.
