Pretoria - The Bulls have confirmed the departure of their president Gert Wessels, who resigned over the weekend.
Wessels quit as president of the union’s amateur arm, the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU) - seemingly due to a section within the union tabling a motion of no confidence in him.
Via a press statement released on Tuesday, the Bulls wished Wessels well for the future:
“The Blue Bulls Company would like to confirm that President of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union and Chairman of the BBCo board, Gert Wessels, has tendered his resignation and has officially stepped down from his post. We would like to sincerely thank him for his efforts during his term, and would also like to wish him all of the best with his future endeavours.”
Wessels' resignation came after reports of financial difficulties within the Bulls franchise.
It was also reported on Tuesday that the BBRU would appoint an interim president within the next few weeks to replace Wessels.
His term was set to come to an end in November this year.
