Brumbies pair eye 'Tahs scalp

Cape Town - Brumbies flyhalf Christian Leali'ifano will take even an ugly victory over the Waratahs in their Super Rugby clash in Canberra on Friday.

Both sides are going into the fixture on the back of respective wins, but there is concern that it could be a cagey derby match at GIO Stadium.

"We play as much as we can and I guess the constricted game is probably from the physicality of the games as well," was Leali'ifano's response when asked by rugby.com.au how they would play in the Australian derby.

"They're always been quite brutal games and I guess we've just got to adapt as best we can to how the game flows and any chance we get to win we'll take."

He added: "It's just been the nature of the game, you can't really do much about it when you're playing so tight and constricted.

"This week's hopefully going to be pretty open, a dry track it's going to be good for us to play some footy."

The Brumbies opened their Super Rugby season with an outstanding 52-10 victory over the Hurricanes and centre Matt Toomua is hoping for a similar clinical edge from his side when they run out on home soil this week.

"A lot of it (tries) was from set-piece, not much phase play so hopefully we can get that this week but if it is scrums and mauls that win the game so be it," he said.
