Brumbies clout Reds in Canberra

Cape Town - The Brumbies confirmed the superiority among the Australian sides in this year's Vodacom Super Rugby tournament with a comprehensive thrashing of the Reds in Canberra on Saturday.

As it happened: Brumbies v Reds

The Brumbies won 43-10 after the teams were dead-locked at 10-all at half-time.

The Brumbies scored six tries through centre Tevita Kuridrani, hooker Robbie Abel, fullback Aiden Toua, flank Chris Alcock, replacement loose forward Jarrad Butler as well as replacement back James Dargaville.

New Zealand-born flyhalf Wharenui Hawera landed five conversions as well as a penalty.

The Reds replied with a try by wing Chris Kuridrani and a conversion and penalty from scrumhalf James Tuttle.

The Brumbies picked up a full-house of five points for their victory and extended their lead atop the Australian Conference to eight points, having also played one match fewer than their two nearest contenders for top spot.

The Reds left empty-handed and remained third in the Australian Conference.

In next weekend's Round 8 action the Brumbies travel to Melbourne to face the Rebels (Saturday, April 15 at 11:45 SA time), while the Reds host the Kings earlier in the day in Brisbane (07:05 SA time).
