Wynand Olivier off to Japan

2012-07-10 14:18

Pretoria - Vodacom Bulls stalwart Wynand Olivier will join Japanese club Ricoh Black Rams at the completion of the Super Rugby series, the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd announced on Tuesday.

Olivier, who played his 100th match for the Bulls two weeks ago, will return from Japan in February 2013 and will again be available to play for the Bulls in 2013 Super Rugby.

He will then return to the Rams at the end of the 2013 Super Rugby season, when his contract with the Bulls runs out.

“We have decided to release Wynand from his Currie Cup duties for this period and allow him to play for the Black Rams in their Top League and Japanese Cup competitions. We believe this is a win-win situation for Wynand, the Bulls and the Rams,” Barend van Graan, CEO of the BBC said.

“Wynand has been a very loyal servant to the Bulls and Blue Bulls and has played in all our teams since school. We were happy to accommodate his request for a release as we appreciate his commitment to the Bulls over many years of service.”

Shall I call your wife for you?” “Why do I need help?” asks Jed. The receptionist replies “Well, it says on your record that you’re a useless wanker

      steyts - 2012-07-10 16:34

The bulls could have won it without him!! They wouldn't have done it without bakies, matfield and fourie...

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-10 17:17

but they did it with him, so your comments are invalid and devoid of any value

      Deon - 2012-07-11 16:10

Well tom.tadis you have set a new record on how many times you have to tell us that he has won 3 superrugby titles. Keep saying it over in your head and mabe he will become a better player. Yes he was a good Bulls player but he was very average Springbok.

He had a good run for the Bulls, good luck boet!! Stormers 4 Life!!

  • frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-10 14:57

that is sad news indeed for all Stormers supporters.. .We knew we could count on Wynand to play the crash ball and hold onto the ball, and never pass, and defend like a revolving door... we may actually have to adjust our plans against the bulls...

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-10 15:15

Frans sometimes your comments are good but this is purile. How many stormers have the history this guy has? Exactly 3 super titles and a world cup. Suck it

      twanette.holtzhausen - 2012-07-10 15:40

I think its a damnnnn fine comment :) lol

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-10 17:19

johan is a doctor and has a db9 - so bossie your comments are invalid

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-10 20:21

lol - sorry - couldn't resist. I will miss Wynand... I love ripping my Bulls mates off about him when we watch the games together... I stand by my statement - he is not such a great centre - the trophies he won was as a part of a great team. anyway, if Johan Spies is really a doctor driving an Aston Martin and living in Canada, I am really sorry for him - he must really be a sad specimen with the personality of a persimmon if he can't pick up a girlfriend with that combo. And he patently does not have one, as he is on here 24/7 - i'm not sure when he works!!! And Tom, not to be a Grammar Nazi - but the word is Puerile.

THANK THE POPE! MAYBE NOW JUAN De JONG WILL GET A FAIR SHAKE WITH THE BOKS. AND MAYBE THE BULLS WILL GO BACK TO WINNING WAYS NOW THAT THE BALL WILL GET PASSED DOWN THE BACKLINE!

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-10 17:10

juan 5 foot 10 de jong will never play for the boks. he is small and never gets a chance to show anything off for the stormers. jaque fourie he is not.

      john.edwards.733450 - 2012-07-10 18:58

Yes, let's get more players from the Stormers backline into the SBs ... .. heaven knows JdJ and that backline have been on fire all season long .

  • vincent.s.cupido - 2012-07-11 09:34

To be honest, and as a staunch Bulls supporter, I am not saddened at all that he is leaving for Japan after the Super Rugby season, he is most definitely not a loss to the Bulls, to the contrary, his departure opens up alternative centre pairings for the Bulls for the Currie Cup. This guy can be brilliant one day and extremely weak the next game. The biggest problem I have with him is the fact that, once he manages very well to draw the defence to him, and in that way opening up spaces in the defence of the opposite team, he fails to pass to the guys next to him who have excellent chances to score tries, the very same thing happened last weekend against the Sharks, I can clearly recall a situation where he actually denied us a try by holding on to the ball, all he had to do was to pass the ball to the guys next to him. I really hope he is so happy in Japan that he refuses to return for next year's Super Rugby season, it does not held if you are very good at drawing defence towards you, and then you want to run right through that defence when you have two to three team mates next to you who can score a try without much defence players in front of them.
