Woes at prop for Lions

Cape Town - The Lions have received a double blow at prop, with JC Janse van Rensburg and CJ van der Linde ruled out with injuries.

The Beeld newspaper reports that the 26-year-old loosehead prop Janse van Rensburg tore ligaments in his toe against the Hurricanes last Friday, which will rule him out for about three months.

Van der Linde, who was Janse van Rensburg's replacement, has a groin injury which is set to keep him sidelined for about four weeks. He is expected to be back in April.

Since making his Super Rugby debut in 2004, Van der Linde has only played in 52 matches, with injuries constantly sidelining the Springbok prop.

Apart from Jacobie Adriaanse and Caylib Oosthuizen, the Lions could also pick the University of Johannesburg's Ruan Dreyer as backup prop.

These setbacks make tighthead prop Pat Cilliers role in the team all the more important.

The Lions travel to Durban to take on the Sharks at Kings Park on Saturday.
