Durban - Sharks coach John Plumtree has made it clear they want to play winning rugby, even if it means scoring less tries.
The Sharks currently lie seventh on the overall Super Rugby log, with five wins and five losses.
They always pride themselves on an attractive style of play, but the coach has hinted a slight change could be on the cards for the rest of the season.
“The plan is to play good rugby, but you can see in the competition that the best defensive sides are winning more than the better attacking sides. The Chiefs and Stormers have the best defence in the competition and they’re both right up there," Plumtree told Sharks website editor, Michael Marnewick.
“We aren’t talking about scoring tries, we’re putting a plan in place and hopefully the boys will play to that plan. And if it means kicking more, then that’s what we’ll do. We want to play a brand of rugby that’s exciting, that’s what we’ve always done at the Sharks.
"But if we’re not playing like that at the moment, but we’re winning, then that’s what will happen. That’s important to remember, that winning is what we’re interested in doing, not really how we are doing it.
This point was illustrated in their match against the Highlanders last week. Despite winning 28-16, they scored only one try and conceded only one.
