Sydney - The Waratahs claimed their seventh consecutive victory over the Reds with a thumping 30-6 bonus-point Vodacom Super Rugby win at the Sydney Olympic stadium on Saturday.
The Waratahs recorded their biggest win over the Reds in Super Rugby with a four tries to nil triumph for their second bonus-point victory of the season to lead the Australian conference.
The 24-point winning gap surpassed the Waratahs' previous highest margin of 19 in their 27-8 win in 2005.
The Reds, with Wallaby halves Will Genia and Quade Cooper nullified by the Waratahs' swarming defence, remain without a win in Sydney since 2003.
The Waratahs won the keenly-contested all-Australian match before almost 34 000 fans through their brutal defence which left plenty of Reds players wounded, including a worrying left ankle injury for skipper James Horwill.
It was one of the Waratahs' most comprehensive performances with tries for Drew Mitchell, David Dennis, Lachie Turner and Benn Robinson, two conversions from Kurtley Beale and two penalties from Berrick Barnes.
The Reds, the most adventurous Australian team last season, were held try-less with their only points coming from two Cooper penalties.
"Defence was a big part of the game and our guys were really good in that area," Waratahs' skipper Phil Waugh said.
"When we got our opportunities we converted pressure into points.
"It is important to take points out of the opposition 22 (quarter) when you get down there and we did that well tonight."
The Waratahs began strongly and were up 11-0 inside 10 minutes after Wallaby wing Mitchell finished off a quick-thinking tap kick from Beale to score in the corner.
Blindside flanker Dennis caught the Reds' defence napping with a rampaging try off a short lineout throw-in after 33 minutes for the Waratahs to lead 16-6 at half-time.
The Waratahs put the game to bed in the second half with further tries to winger Turner off a Luke Burgess pass and replacement prop Robinson, who burrowed over off a pick and go.
"We didn't put much ball together and any opportunities we did get we blew and you've got to give credit to a very well-drilled Waratahs side," Reds' skipper Horwill said.
Horwill said he was hoping his injury was a sprained ankle after a serious knee injury in the corresponding round last year which ended his season.
The Waratahs travel to New Zealand next week to take on the Crusaders in Nelson, while the Reds go to Canberra to play the Brumbies.
