Cape Town - Stormers fullback Jaco Taute's season is likely over after a horror injury sustained against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Taute severely damaged his anterior cruciate (ACL) knee ligaments when he was tackled by Cheetahs wing Willie le Roux midway through the first half of the Super Rugby clash.

Taute, 22, is currently on loan at the Stormers from the Lions for the duration of the Super Rugby competition.

The Cheetahs won the game 26-24, with flyhalf Burton Francis kicking a penalty after the hooter had sounded.
