Cape Town - Super Rugby log-leaders, the Waratahs, have suffered a blow with captain Dave Dennis ruled out for the season.

The flanker ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against the Brumbies on Saturday.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald website, Dennis underwent a scan on Sunday, which confirmed his worst fears.

He will go under the knife this week and will be sidelined for the remainder of the year.

The 'Tahs beat the Brumbies 39-8 in Sydney to leapfrog the Sharks into top spot on the overall Super Rugby log.

They host the Highlanders at home in their next game this coming Sunday (kick-off 08:05 SA time).
