SuperBru fans back Lions

Cape Town - Outside of Super Rugby there is another huge game this weekend as the Kings take on the Lions in a shootout for next season’s premier Southern Hemisphere rugby competition.

And somewhat surprisingly, given the Kings’ participation in Super Rugby this year, the SuperBru stats are stacked heavily in the Lions’ favour, even for the first leg which is due to be played in Port Elizabeth.

Over 86% of fans on SuperBru have picked the Lions to win, with the average margin being a sizeable 10 points.

Those who have picked the Kings – just under 14% of SuperBru players – are reasonably confident too, with the average pick being Kings by 7.

The last time these sides met – in February – the Lions ran out 41-31 winners and outscored the Kings by six tries to four, which is perhaps why the SuperBru community is backing such an emphatic win for the Johannesburg franchise.

However, with a season of Super Rugby behind them, the Kings will be battle-hardened and no pushovers, so it may not be as clear-cut as many SuperBru players seem to be expecting.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
