    Stormers to rest Etzebeth, Kitshoff

    2015-04-28 11:52

Cape Town - The Stormers are likely to rest lock Eben Etzebeth and prop Steven Kitshoff for their Super Rugby clash against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this Saturday.

“Eben and Steven are guys that need a breather. (But) I have full confidence in our group,” coach Allister Coetzee told Netwerk24.

Oli Kebble, who did well as a replacement against the Bulls last weekend, will in all likelihood replace Kitshoff at loosehead prop, with Jean Kleyn coming in for Etzebeth.

Etzebeth has played five consecutive matches which means he needs to rest in line with an agreement between the SA Rugby Union and the SA franchises to rest top Springboks.

Coetzee felt it was not needed to rest backs Damian de Allende and Cheslin Kolbe, who have started in all 10 of the Stormers’ games this year.

“Cheslin is a player with explosive power who we can manage during the week and he is not exhausted. Damian is also not in need of rest. We have a bye after our next two games, which will provide a breather.

“Steven’s position has greater physical demands. You can’t play him every game. We have Oli (Kebble) and Ali Vermaak who can stand in.”

Kick-off for Saturday’s clash at Free State Stadium is scheduled for 17:05.
