Stellenbosch - A Stormers XV kept Stellenbosch scoreless in a warm-up match at Coetzenburg on Saturday.
The Stormers XV won 17-0 after leading 7-0 at half-time.
Coach Allister Coetzee targeted this fixture as an opportunity to trial fringe players.
Former Maties Varsity Cup speedster, Tythan Adams, scored the Stormers first try, and Elgar Watts’s conversion ensured they went to the break with a 7-0 lead. Adams scored a second in the second half, while centre Michael van der Spuy also got on the scorecard.
"Conditions were not easy with the wind and the Maties offered tough opposition," said Coetzee.
"We got the answers we were looking for, with some players impressing.
"All in all though, it is great to be giving players the vital game time they need in preparation for the season ahead."
The Stormers will play the Lions next Friday in the first fixture of the Neo Africa Tri-Series at Newlands.
