Stormers rule out Pienaar move

2011-05-16 10:03

Stephen Nell

Cape Town - Western Province director of coaching Rassie Erasmus has confirmed former Sharks scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar will not be available for selection in the closing stages of this year's Vodacom Super Rugby.

There were reports last week that Springbok coach Peter de Villiers wanted Pienaar, currently in action for Irish side Ulster, to return to South Africa, with the Stormers and Bulls the favourites to sign him.

The Stormers are currently in Auckland preparing for Friday's Super Rugby clash against the Blues. Kick-off is at 09:35 SA time.

  • BALSAKKIE - 2011-05-16 10:26

Bad news!!! He is a GREAT player, but we'll have to SOLDIER on!!!!!

      GILLBERT - 2011-05-16 11:55

piet grant moet springbok speel hy is seker die beste loskakel onder druk ha hahahahahahahahahahah

      StaalBurgher - 2011-05-16 13:17

As a Stormers supporter I must say I am not entirely convinced on this Peter Grant for Bok 10 enthusiasm. He is good yes but like Kirchener would only be adequate. We should be looking for better than just adequate.

      my_story - 2011-05-16 13:58

Grant needs help with his touch kicking.

      Howzitekse - 2011-05-16 14:58

Grant is OK but as a professional playing in a team that is trying to win the Super 15, why, if he needs help with aspects of his game, is he 1st choice despite regular failures? Januarie had a great game before he was mysteriously subbed. Why was Grant not subbed? Why buy a tallented player like Lionel Cronje and then mess him around. I will be surprised if he stays in Cape Town. Rassie and Coetzee must wake up.

      Oukoos - 2011-05-16 15:51

      YoMama - 2011-05-16 18:50

Howzitekse, I must admit that Januarie for once did not stink the place up. Which means that he was only a little bit pathetic. I think that if Pienaar had come to the Stormers then they would finally have a game winner. Grant is good but not a match winner. I would say that if Pienaar were inside of him, then these mental retardations that the Stormers get when required to step up will come to an end. It just seems like the Stormers go through these patches in their game when no-one knows what to do.

      YoMama - 2011-05-16 18:51

Also, Lionel can come back to Bloem. I'd rather have him the bench than Naastie Olivier.

  • watalife - 2011-05-16 10:27

Thank God, he should rather move up north to the flo nulle. bulls...suck

      Blouste-Blou - 2011-05-16 10:49

      JuanT - 2011-05-16 13:13

      JR - 2011-05-16 13:14

Wannabees!!

  • BALSAKKIE - 2011-05-16 10:29

This coming weekend , Sharks vs the Buls. My prediction?? The Sharks to BEAT the Buls by 10 points...

      watalife - 2011-05-16 11:03

Thats a bit conservative, The sardines will be up 10 half-time and take it by 16. bulls...suck

      chrismtb007 - 2011-05-16 11:15

Balsakkie, wasnt that your prediction for teh Rebels this last weekend??? bwahahahaha

      BALSAKKIE - 2011-05-16 11:25

The Rebels= 14th on log = C team of any High Scool in SA.

      greentomato - 2011-05-16 11:29

The Sharks couldn't beat an egg!!!!!!!!!!!!

      BALSAKKIE - 2011-05-16 11:47

      greentomato = poofter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Marcell - 2011-05-16 11:51

      Dgs - 2011-05-16 12:17

@ greentomato - The Sharks might not be able to beat an egg but at least they can beat the Bulls as we have seen once already this season

      thumper - 2011-05-16 13:14

Bulls suck but I hope they beat the Sharks by 20. @Dgs...when did these 2 teams meet this season?

      EXBULL - 2011-05-16 15:46

@Dgs.... what are you talking about dude? The Sharks and Bulls havent played yet.

  • Grunk - 2011-05-16 10:32

I've always considered him a better flyhalf than scrumhalf (my opinion only!) but such is the dearth of good scrumhalves in the country I would gladly have him back for any Province. I think Sharks need him more urgently than anybody else though.

  • MaestroX - 2011-05-16 10:35

Yeah, it’s a pity, we could have done with him. Probably one of the best players to have on a bench, he can play any position in the back line!! Either way he should be playing in SA, he is a great talent. What’s the latest with regards Joe Pieterson, is he ever coming back and how has his year been overseas?

      Wehan - 2011-05-16 11:37

Joe's contract expires in the end of 2012,he will only decide then if he is going to come back.Hopefully he does.

      Durasmart - 2011-05-16 16:28

I still think the best position to use him is at fullback , because currently we don't even have a solid first choice fullback in SA, let alone any back-up.

  • MrMojoRising - 2011-05-16 10:48

. . sal snaaks wees as hy vir die Bulls gaan speel wel.

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-16 12:17

@MrMojoRising - they won't sign him, one has to be a Mighty Men Conference season ticket holder to become a Bull. Ludicrous said that he won't 'sommer soek' for players that won't fit into the Bulls family. Peace.

      Krugga - 2011-05-16 13:06

Goeie ouers! You surpassed a broken record, any new comments your butchness? Safacat came second in a beauty contest this weekend, a German shepherd with shaved anus won first prize.

  • Dan - 2011-05-16 11:00

Wht would the Stormers consider him - they have Ricky January!

      Grey B - 2011-05-16 11:09

      Ok Dan, I'll bite. Idiot!

      Rob van den Heuvel - 2011-05-16 11:19

@Dan - I agree, they ( WP ) seem to really be backing the Januarie thing, not sure for how much longer. Worst thing for WP will be if he ( Ricky ) puts in a semi-good game on tour and they decide to keep him on. I think WP may have peaked a bit soon, time will tell.

      Julius Dilem - 2011-05-16 11:24

      Well said Grey B...

      BALSAKKIE - 2011-05-16 11:27

It's none of your Business. Concentrate on your Blue Bulls team. Julle brag oor 'n wen teen 'n span wat 14de op die log is. Bulls = Suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Marcell - 2011-05-16 11:55

Hey knapsakkie. Is jy 'n windbuks? Ons brag na die wen. Waarmee kan julle brag?

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-16 12:18

@Marcell - we can brag about the fact that you chaps are still looking at our @sses on the log.

      Marcell - 2011-05-16 13:00

Sorry!

      rugby_guru - 2011-05-16 13:05

SAFFA one thing I have learnt is the Bulls Supporters lack brain cells, simple as that, their jokes are pathetic and their come back lines even more so, don't waste your time with them, their time is over, they had a 'window of opertunity' where they could take performance enhancing supplements and get away with it. Now that they have a level playing field they really don't look that great. It shows how over rated they truly are... Look at Spies for example all his steroid use and he still can't play rugby.

      JuanT - 2011-05-16 13:19

      Krugga - 2011-05-16 13:29

      Oukoos - 2011-05-16 15:55

      DAN, loop k*k!

  • greentomato - 2011-05-16 11:30

That's a relief, cos he's crap. Who was going to sit on the bench so he could play? Peter Grant?

      Ockert - 2011-05-16 11:39

Based on the weekend it might not be a bad idea for Grant to move to the bench.

      Marcell - 2011-05-16 13:24

      Bekker gebruik die park bench.

  • Merle - 2011-05-16 12:40

      rugby_guru - 2011-05-16 13:09

Problem is we don't want him back, he still has a good relationship with us, however we don't want to spend on him. I can agree, we great at finding new young talent and converting them into stars.

      Marcell - 2011-05-16 13:20

      SAFFA-CAT - 2011-05-16 13:33

@Marcell - genius, the chaps you are trying to pull into a battle are SHARKS fans chopstick. Habana has nothing to do with them pocket genius. Had you read the initial comment, you would have seen Merle refer to Dolfie Straeuli....he on the other hand has nothing to do with us at the WPRFU. Just shout if all of this is becoming 2 confusing for you. We can call a timeout for tards.

      rugby_guru - 2011-05-16 13:38

      Marcell - 2011-05-16 13:46

Julle knape moet lekker werk. Ek gaan nou slaap.

      Howzitekse - 2011-05-16 18:41

Yes Rugby Guru, the sharks are great at finding talent - in the Free Srare.

  • thumper - 2011-05-16 13:12

what would the point have been to have him for the last few games of the season??? We have enough good scrumhalves and fullbacks in SA if only the best are selected.

  • StaalBurgher - 2011-05-16 13:15

    That is a shame.

  • Laserguided - 2011-05-16 13:40

      watalife - 2011-05-16 14:00

      Krugga - 2011-05-16 14:27

@havenolife - have you noticed, no one pays any attention to you...? Just like your parents. Was your dad an Afrikaner Bulls supporter, got beat up as a child?

  • Laserguided - 2011-05-16 14:36

@ Getalife: Stormers = losers (see, it even rhymes!)

  • Lloyd - 2011-05-16 16:22

Ruan is way to young to go on pension in Cape Town.

      WPBEFONK - 2011-05-16 16:29

      Howzitekse - 2011-05-16 18:44

Nice soft chirp Lloyd. Welcome back. Where have you been? Therapy? Is the Prozac making you mellow?

      Lloyd - 2011-05-16 19:03

Thanks Howzit, it's good to be back. Had to move sharing my vast knowledge with you all to the side for a bit, but now you can look forward to hearing from me everyday, allday.

  • JVR - 2011-05-17 07:35

We need Ruan in the Sharks camp. He is a good back up player. Lambie is over-rated and McCleod has no strong back up either. This is where Pienaar can become in handy in both those positions.

  • al_bundy - 2011-05-17 11:43

As I have stated not long ago.. he has yet to prove himself at the higher levels. So far he has not even come close.
