Stormers deny Flo rumour

2012-05-07 10:53

Cape Town – Suggestions on the Twitter grapevine that Springbok flank Francois Louw is already back “in training” with the Stormers ahead of a possible short-term loan deal from Bath have been pooh-poohed by the franchise.

Spokesperson Gavin Lewis told Sport24 on Monday that the rumour was “not true”, while some reports have also suggested that the chances of Louw becoming available for his former Super Rugby team actually receded at the weekend.

The strong loose forward, who is a fine fetcher but also forceful ball-carrier, has missed the last few weeks of the English Premiership season with an injury.

But he is thought to be approaching full fitness again, although he did not play for Bath again in their 28-3 defeat to Leicester Tigers in their last fixture at the weekend – that may have been a bit of a spark for a jump-the-gun thought that he is already focusing on a Stormers stint.

The club finished well out of the playoff berths, eighth out of the 12 teams in the Premiership.

Allister Coetzee’s charges presently lack experienced options at loose forward, as all of Schalk Burger, Nick Koster and especially Duane Vermeulen will only return after the June Test window period.

I wouldn't mind having Flo back! Great player!

      Christo - 2012-05-07 11:24

He sure is a great player!!! But why wouldn't Alister re new Pieter Louw's contract? \r\nThought he was a very good back up loosie...

      Acta - 2012-05-07 11:39

@Jason Agree, believe we don't need him, would VERY nice to have him:)

      Jason - 2012-05-07 11:42

Isn't it funny how all these news and rugby sites contradict each other? http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,16024_7737695,00.html

Listened to an hour long interview with Proudfoot on Saturday morning. He made no mention of Flo coming back this year. He did say he has been a huge loss to WP rugby and they are looking to getting him back permanently. He said Flo is not only a good player but he is an outstanding team man. He said on & off the field he is highly respected for the dynamic he brings to the side.

The current 3 loosies are awesome and can get the job done - but the problem is in depth, who sits on the bench etc. I am glad to see Carr getting game time, we need a good backup on the wood though - such a shame about Duane, and I personally have not seen anything 'wow' from Koster (ever in fact) - he is quick, and runs well, but I don't think he is better than Carr

  • Bielie - 2012-05-07 12:49

Rob, surely you have the contacts to get at the facts, so how about it? Is Flo going to join the Stormers or not?

  • Johan - 2012-05-07 12:50

      Saffa Brat... The Toothless Fairy!!!

  • RealTokolos - 2012-05-07 12:56

That's right... Bring them all back. Push the young guys like Kolisi, Carr, etc. to the lower competitions. The Bulls and Sharks will grab them before you can say strike. There they will become Springboks.

      Staal - 2012-05-07 14:34

So what happens if Carr or Kolisi get injured? Get a grip you muppet.

      willie.uys - 2012-05-07 14:53

Tokolos, Gaan skryf vir die Blou Koerant.

      RealTokolos - 2012-05-07 16:02

  • Grant - 2012-05-07 14:30

It would make perfect sense to obtain the services of F Louw......at least for the next 4 matches....

  • Carl - 2012-05-07 15:23

As nice as it would be to get Flo back, there is no need for him. There's Rohan Kitshoff and Nick Fenton Wells as well. These guys are good and should be given the chance to step up. I know the coaching staff would feel more comfortable with experience, but I think that there is enough experience on other positions to make up for it.

  • Reinhardt Leach - 2012-05-07 19:19

Stormers groete!
