Sithole: Sharks boosted by tour win

    2015-05-27 13:23

Durban - Sharks flyer S'bura Sithole says they have made notable improvements in recent weeks, and they plan to continue their good form against the Rebels at Kings Park on Friday.

The Sharks have endured a disappointing Super Rugby campaign in 2015. They have lost nine of their 14 games this year and will not make the tournament playoffs - only the second time they’ve failed to reach the playoff stage since 2007.

However, the men from Durban picked up a good win during their final tour match against the Reds in Brisbane, recording a 21-14 victory over the Australian side.

Sithole believed that it was good reward for the Sharks, who are back home after a tough overseas tour.

“The results haven’t always gone our way, but even when we lost on tour, our collective performances have been better and better each week, especially on defence,” Sithole

“The win over the Reds is definitely a boost for our confidence and team morale. We’ve been working hard to fix the things that have gone wrong, and the players are happy to return to winning ways.

“It’s also good to be back home in Durban… back in a familiar environment, sleeping in your own bed and spending time with friends and family, who we haven’t seen in four weeks.”

Sithole is confident the Sharks can continue their good form against the Rebels on Friday.

“The Rebels are a good attacking side. They hold on to the ball well, and they will punish you if you give them the opportunity to score,” said Sithole. “We need another strong performance following our win over the Reds, which will be good for the team and our fans. We need be accurate with ball in hand, and strong on defence.”

Personally, Sithole has shown great form since returning from injury in recent weeks. But he stressed that there’s more to come in the near future.

“I’m happy with my progress I’ve made through the opportunities that have come my way this season, but my current game is far from the level where I want to be. I want to continue improving and adding value where I can. There’s much more I can offer,” said Sithole.
