Stormers pick Fourie at No 8

2012-07-11 13:21

Cape Town - Coach Allister Coetzee on Wednesday named his Stormers team to take on the Rebels at Newlands on Saturday. Kick-off at 15:00.

There is one change to the loose-trio, with Deon Fourie selected at No 8 and Canadian international Jebb Sinclair dropping to bench. As a result Don Armand falls out of the match 22.

In the only other change in the pack, Tiaan Liebenberg starts at hooker, while on the bench, Brok Harris returns in jersey 16, after missing the last game with a broken nose.

The backline is unchanged from the one that beat the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last week.

Saturday’s game marks the Rebels' first ever match at Newlands.

This weekend’s game will also serve as a farewell for many retiring and departing Rebels.

Captain Stirling Mortlock and Al Campbell have both announced their retirements at season’s end, while Mark Gerrard, Julian Huxley and Tom Chamberlain will play overseas in 2013.

Teams:

Stormers:

15 Joe Pietersen, 14 Gio Aplon, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Jean de Villiers, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Deon Fourie, 7 Rynhardt Elstadt, 6 Siya Kolisi, 5  Andries Bekker, 4 De Kock Steenkamp, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg, 1 Steven Kitshoff

HERE WE GO STORMERS, HERE WE GO !!!

      cape.maori - 2012-07-11 13:40

Where to? How about the stormers facing the Saders at your beloved Newlands? You remember last year? Stormers need not worry about loosies - their real problem is the scrums!

      orrinf8 - 2012-07-11 13:58

      and your REAL PROBLEM @moari is: you're a SELL-OUT !! SSSTTTOOORRRMMMEEERRRSSS

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-11 14:16

scrums won't be an issue as soon as eBen back and the lock pair is in place the front row has more support from behind. look closer at the cheetahs storm game the locks were way to high and were not pushing at same direction as locks. best your saders worry about pitching on the day cause jet lag a bitch esp after you played the sharks and that's if you beat the sharks.

      steyts - 2012-07-11 14:23

Cape Maori's real problem is where he lost his front teeth and his brains...

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 15:26

i havent laughed quite as hard as i did when i read that thanks jap

      sean.bagley.50 - 2012-07-11 16:07

I don't think that this is a bad idea at all, I like the way management thinks, having said that I would also start with Louis Schreuder at no9, just to see how he gets on when starting.Dewaldt Duvenage should have been on the bench a long while ago.

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-11 18:17

Ok Tom... Grammar lesson - THAT comment by Jap was Puerile. It was childish, denigrating and silly, and not really funny. So it explains a lot about you if you found that funny.

  • Edward - 2012-07-11 13:29

Would really like to see Schreuder start. Go STORMERS!!!

      christiaan.plessis - 2012-07-11 14:17

Yeah unfortunately I believe the whole reason our backline doesnt fire and we dont get 4 try bonus points with such a talented backline is mostly to blame on the most boring unimaginative scrumhalf in super rugby. Probably the only scrummy without a try, heck I dont think Ive even ever seen him attempt a break. Surely with all the tallent in the cape they can do better. Havent seen much of Schreuder so would like too. Else stormers needs to get Hougard back. Im even missing January, and that says alot!

      provence.poppies - 2012-07-11 14:40

We want to go forward Hougaard can only be worse. We see the evidence each week.

      lean.sadie - 2012-07-11 16:15

JapJapjap.wat always writing crapcrapcrap.what? What are you saying. Poor excuse. Go to school and finish it first before you comment. Nobody understands any of the crapcrap you write.

      stephen.axtell.7 - 2012-07-11 13:45

Once I thought people who play online games like World of Warcraft all day were the saddest bunch of losers around - until Tom Tardis came along. What level of loser must one be to hit f5 waiting for a Stormer article so they can post drivel.

      Harry1946 - 2012-07-11 13:59

      Retardis?

      bushpigeventsbar - 2012-07-11 13:59

      bootman.bokke - 2012-07-11 14:03

Hey Tom. I've got a new song for you and your sad sack bulls buddies to sing after the SR final. It's called "We've got three and you've got one"......................seeing how the "no cups" tune will no longer be valid.

      japjapjap.wat - 2012-07-11 15:25

go rebels! rebel with a cause... ja rebels with a very good cause??

      japjapjap.wat - 2012-07-11 15:38

      lol@Bootman

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 14:24

oh is that the grandslam now? the clutching at straws grand slam? the players of colour development trophy (vodacom), the best overall team over a long period (2nd overall on the log) not just the lucky in the playoffs cup (conference cup), then the elusive ones you cant seem to win - the real cups... the currie cup and then the most elusive of elusive trophies, the super rugby trophy. which u wont win. again. as usual. choke cough splutter choke

      bootman.bokke - 2012-07-11 14:32

Tom I remember a few weeks back when the Bulls lead the log for one week, you guys were over the moon because of it. For that entire week the rest of us had to read abotu how you were going to win the conference cup........................so how did that turn out?

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 14:41

did i say that? nope. so what the f are u talking about ? seriously how do you people function? good luck with the grand slam man, really. wow vodacom cup and conference cup in a grand slam. special

      jason.children - 2012-07-11 14:54

Check okes Tom Retardis is getting tense.................................You know what your problem is Tom??? you dont spend enough relaxing time in Cape Town.................learn to puff puff pass bru, puff puff pass!

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-11 15:03

Jason, problem with Tom is that he is like Meisiekind, does not know how to pass:):)

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 15:52

just took my gear, and stepped out the tanning booth

      lean.sadie - 2012-07-11 16:16

That is a good one lionel.

      bootman.bokke - 2012-07-11 16:34

Ok Tom. Easy with the little hissy fit. Let's not call it a grand slam then..............let's call it a "bull wish they could win it" slam.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 17:02

good post lean, really showing off your rugby knowledge here bulls have won more than the stormers have - more much much more, so much more and that is something that warms all our blue hearts. we have won everything we need to win to show what a powerful union we are. from under 13 up to super rugby, we are the benchmark and u cant help but compare every EVERY little thing about the stormers with the bulls. oh how it makes me happy to know we are held in such high regard.

  • paul.ramncwana - 2012-07-11 14:23

Y take Don out he needs some more game time for the Semi's.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 14:42

      alister coetzee - full retard

  • provence.poppies - 2012-07-11 14:34

Wow, nothing left in the cupboard. Hope this works out no8. is more technical than most positions.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-11 14:41

hey if spies can do the technical stuff i am sure most can do it including fourie

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 14:43

yeh looks like u fielding the C team again. must be tough hey, loose forwards out of action, team goes from A to C team. what a compliment to your players

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-11 14:49

Its a team that kicked the Bulls backsides not once but twice this year, hey Tom

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-11 15:08

if my memory is correct it was the bulls that started this b team idea when they visited newlands a few years back with a weaker side and province beat them and the excuse was . . . . guess . . that was our b team . . . wha ha ha ha . so hey what good for the goose is good for the Gander . except the bulls got their goose cooked by a weaker province side.

      lionel.kemm.9 - 2012-07-11 15:11

      @Paul,you are so correct Sir:):)

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 15:27

and then who won the super titles after that? oh ja, the bulls

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-11 16:08

and who didn't make play offs the following year?

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 16:19

and who didnt win it the following year? and the following and the preceding and the preceding and ....and and and and ever? 3 super trophies. game over

      paul.sdoow - 2012-07-11 17:26

that's the only thing you got . . . 3 cups blablabla! and soon as we mention about curry cups you say that's history? ? blablabla. fact is we can still win 3cups but you will still be a bull! that's worse than not winning 3cups!

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 17:59

yeh being a bull is so bad haha what a pathetic response hahahahahahahaha u sound like the crumb who wants to be a loaf of bread

  • cape.gtown.1 - 2012-07-11 14:37

The back line have to start playing offensively; surely you have more injuries when playing a defensive game plan. The forwards are having to do too much upfront.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 14:54

finaly someone with some sense. u will probably just get thumbs down. no helping some people

      jason.children - 2012-07-11 15:02

Actually not! It takes less effort to defend if your defensive structures are correct! They have been saying it all season!

      jovan.daniels.7 - 2012-07-11 16:55

And I had a look on verusco, Stormers is 7th with tackles made 2170, Bulls 6th with 2225. Tackles missed is 238 with only blues beating us with 236 ( they only made 1672 tackles). To have a proper defense does not mean you have to break your body. I know this is only stats but it does tell a story, I agree with Jason.

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 17:06

tells us that the stormers are 2nd with the 2nd least missed tackles and blues are last with the least missed tackles doesnt tell me much hey

      sean.lambie.3 - 2012-07-12 00:17

      @jovan.daniels.7 & Jason , makes 100% sense ! I still hate the Stormers :)

  • rudi.pretorius.96 - 2012-07-11 15:42

isak.visser jy gebruik teveel TIK as jy dink Lions gaan die Bulls wen op loftus..

      sean.lambie.3 - 2012-07-12 00:18

Lol ! I like his comments , but I`m still wondering if he is on tik or cheap wine , maybe both !!

  • Eddie.Minora - 2012-07-11 17:36

just a correction for Tom, WP has won the Currie Cup for 32 times, so stop your k..

      seanb09 - 2012-07-11 21:23

no tom will say thats history ,but when we say their 3 superrugby titles is history, its a different story. i see neither brains nor rugby ability hail from pretoria ;)

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 22:07

dont count before the world changed from black and white to colour

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 22:08

      sean.lambie.3 - 2012-07-12 00:19

@Eddie.Minora - Suppose Jan van Riebeeck also watched them win ! Well done !!

  • Eddie.Minora - 2012-07-11 17:39

    and the Bulls 23

      tom.tardis - 2012-07-11 23:26

but our 23 mean more because they were won close to the professional era

  • mardeo.bezuidenhout - 2012-07-11 21:07

Could work brilliantly. Fourie turns over as much ball as any real fetcher. Stormers played themselves into a position where they can afford to take the gamble, bonus points or not.

  • raymond.abrahamse - 2012-07-11 21:24

      frans.visserdsb - 2012-07-12 05:50

tommie... I bow down to your superior rugby knowledge... tell me - how many super 15 cups of any description have the bulls won? None - their last cup was a super 14 cup. So who is living in the past? Which team has the best record this season? if my maths is correct, the Bulls have won 9 out of 15 games - 60%... the stormers 13 out of 15... 86%. please stop living in the past, it is not good for such a young 'squirt' as you...
