Sharks unveil new-look jersey

Durban - The Sharks have launched their new look Vodacom Super Rugby jersey in time for die hard supporters to purchase before the start of the new Super 15 season.

The official match jersey will be worn by the Sharks for the first time against the Cheetahs on Saturday, February 19 to be played in Durban.

A decision was taken that the Sharks should not move away from the traditional black and white colours, allowing for other design elements to be introduced. The new black sublimated Sharks jersey is a very attractive design with streaks across the front chest. These streaks represent the rising of the sun over the East Coast and as The Sharks reside in the sunny and warm East Coast the synergy is perfect.

"We are delighted with the new look for the 2011 season," commented Mr. Price chairperson Alastair McArthur. "As title sponsor of the Sharks, and as a leading fashion retailer, the jersey's modern, fresh look embraces the latest in sport design trends. This, coupled with the technical properties, and research that has gone into specially manufacturing this jersey, makes the Sharks the stand-out team of the year.

We are proud to be associated with them and wish them all the best for the Super Rugby season ahead".

The Sharks will make use of both their black and white jerseys this year. For all homes games, they will don the black jersey, whilst away games will see the team making use of their alternate white jerseys, when there is no clash with other teams’ colours.

Sharks CEO, Brian van Zyl added, “It was a collaboration between Mr. Price, the Sharks and manufacturers, Reebok. This ensured that all the latest product technology and new design features have been incorporated in the match kit. Ultimately our aim was to create a jersey that allowed the players to perform at their best.

To do this, we had to incorporate a number of technical features to enhance player performance which makes it easier for players to wear and move in, as well as ensuring comfortability and a body hugging fit.”

Both replica jerseys can be purchased from the Sharks retail shop, The Shark Cage, situated in Isaiah Ntshangase Road (formerly Walter Gilbert Road), for the price of R599. Jersey sizes for men range from S to 3XL, for ladies from XS through to 2XL, whilst the jersey for kids wear will retail for R499 and is available for sizes 3-14 years old.
