Sharks send SOS to Griquas

Cape Town - Griquas prop Steph Roberts has joined the Sharks on loan ahead of their Super Rugby clash against the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday.

The Sharks have already lost Julian Redelinghuys and Tendai "Beast" Mtawarira through ankle injuries.

With only Jannie du Plessis, Dale Chadwick and Wiehahn Herbst left as props, the Durbanites were keen to gain the services of another front ranker.

And according to the Volksblad newspaper, the Sharks reached an agreement with Griquas for Roberts's services.

He has never been considered by the Cheetahs for Super Rugby and could be included in the Sharks' 22-man squad for the Stormers clash.

"Steph left for Durban yesterday (Monday) to help the Sharks out at prop. With the good relations we have with the Sharks, we thought it would be good to let him go. It gives our players the opportunity to play at Super Rugby level," said Arni van Rooyen, Griquas' CEO.

Roberts is not part of the Cheetahs' Super Rugby group and can therefore play for the Sharks.

According to Beeld, Roberts had his first training session with the Sharks on Tuesday.
