Sharks relish Saders challenge

2011-06-20 22:22

Christo Buchner

Johannesburg - "No matter how much we love the women in our lives, we are delighted not to be at home this week."

Sharks captain and centre Stefan Terblanche says that he and his players don't want to be anywhere else than New Zealand this week in an effort to stop the Crusaders' march to the Super Rugby title.

"The match against the Bulls could easily have been our last and then we would have been on holiday this week," said Terblanche, who was one of the best players in the 26-23 win over the Bulls.

"Even if we'd like to spend time with our wives and children, we are very happy that we are still involved in rugby this week and are still "breathing" in the Super Rugby tournament."

He said the Test atmosphere at Loftus Versfeld had contributed to getting the best out of the players.

"There was an incredible atmosphere and it was a wonderful place at which to play such an important game. There are people who believe that rugby is losing its lustre, but anyone who was at Loftus will tell you the opposite.

"It was a great advertisement for the game and a privilege to be able to play in such as game. Both teams turned it into a showpiece. To be able to have won at a packed Loftus is something I will always remember," added Terblanche, who scored the first of the Sharks' two tries.

"Nobody could doubt our commitment to winning the game. We knew that we would have to fight fire with fire, and possibly have to do even more than that.

"Every player was willing to put his body on the line from the outset. We have now set a high standard and showed that it can be done. We will need more of that against the Crusaders on Saturday."

Patrick Lambie, who produced a man-of-the-match performance at fullback, was also impressed with the special atmosphere - even if a laser was being shone into his eyes when he kicked for goal.

"I'm not blaming it for the (three) kicks that I missed, but I have to say that I was aware of it and that it bothered me," he said.

His performance at fullback was so good that Springbok coach Peter de Villiers could now consider him for South Africa's No 15 jersey.

      hardloop - 2011-06-21 00:19

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA! Sour grapes, neh? Feeling a little down since the Sharks man-shamed your precious Bulls? Grow up. Support SA rugby unlike your confused afrikaans speaking new zealander friend, Frik.

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-21 00:32

Hardloop het nou n groot woord by SAFFA geleer. 'Manshamed'.

      Marcell - 2011-06-21 02:29

Die Kaap is mos die provinsie van mowwe! Die dat hulle so baie weet van 'manshamed'

      WPBEFONK - 2011-06-21 05:53

Go Sharks Go!!! Did the Bulls start with their currie cup preparations?

      Marcell - 2011-06-21 05:58

Ons geniet nog die aftydjie voor ons begin. Wag vir die world class Chokers from down South. Ons wil nie die CC wen omdat ons twee weke voor julle begin het nie.

      Joe Soap - 2011-06-21 06:06

@WP - dont know if the Bulls can start with the CC prep while they are still licking their wounds. What I do know is that their supporters have already started with the excuses; "We need to give the other teams a chance", "We are playing with our B Team" and the best of all "The ref cheated"....Always fun to watch this unfold...

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-21 06:54

      10 Years no cups.

      Travie - 2011-06-21 07:22

@bambie, your comments show immaturity, and heartache, we didnt intend on hurting the Bulls fans. We can't help it if we better, my gosh! Nevermind though carry on trying and practicing and maybe just maybe one day you will knock us out. Until then another liefling bites the dust idiot!

      Graham Bartholomew - 2011-06-21 07:22

@ Ace Vetura, you really are a Doos, are you too embarrassed to use your own name? What are you hiding from?

      Rob van den Heuvel - 2011-06-21 08:02

@Graham - Ace = Lloyd. He was the guy in the stands with the little green laser...

      Eros82 - 2011-06-21 08:05

What time is the Bulls game this weekend??? Oh wait......sorry!!!

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-21 09:48

Go Graham!!! Go Rob!!! Go Eros!!!

      Spartan - 2011-06-21 10:41

@Rob - No it wasn't Loyd, it was a sad attempt from Steve "Hawk Eye" Walsh. Couldn't ref the game, or rather give it to the Bulls as he did at Kinsgpark in overtime, so they sponsored him with a XR6 and a Danville torch.

      Eros82 - 2011-06-21 10:43

All teams' performance is cyclical, no team stays at the top forever. The Bulls were perpetually at the bottom of the log for many years and then they were at the top for a few, but now that they are losing Victor and Bakkies and probably also Fourie Du Preez (forever injured) and not to mention their pretty average flyhalf I see them entering a downward cycle in the very near future!! Time to get out the tissues and Klippies Loftus faithful! HAHAHA!

      Frik - 2011-06-21 11:28

@Etos Jy verwar tien teen een die Springbok meester loskakel Morne Steyn met Patrys Lambie?

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-21 11:29

Spartan, it's been 4 years. Get over it.

      Theuns - 2011-06-21 13:23

@Travie...try again we did it already once..sorry twice in the Shark tank...One S14 final comes to mind...talking about immaturity...sounds like your conversation.. although you haven't won a final yet...but good luck OU GROTE...

  • Francois - 2011-06-20 22:56

Rather let Frans Steyn play full back and Lambie flyhalf - then you have solved both Steyn problems.

  • Ozman - 2011-06-20 22:59

Sonny Bill....overrated, not very impressed of what I have seen of him

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-20 23:03

And he's not very impressed of what he's seen of you.

      Frik - 2011-06-20 23:07

Not his prob if you dont pay your tv licence...

      Jason - 2011-06-20 23:12

True Ace ... except nobody rated Ozman as the biggest greatest and fastest rugby player of all time so there's no disappointment there. Sonny Bill on the other hand, poor guy, was rated so highly, so prematurely! The man doesnt live up to the myth. Disappointed.

      Frik - 2011-06-20 23:16

@Jason waar kyk jy rugby? Onthou om die tv aan te sit as jy weer kyk... Go SAnny Bill!!!

      Joe Soap - 2011-06-21 06:09

SBW got a big fright in Bloem, you could see it on his face. He has still not regained his previous form. BTW - the Free State boys gave Richie a big fright too!

      LexLuther - 2011-06-21 08:57

@ Ozman - I didn't want to believe it, but SBW is a very good player, especially in his ability to suck in 2 or 3 players and then offload, as well as the excellent lines he runs. Any team that doesn't plan adequately for him is going to be in trouble. Having said that, I definitely agree with Joe Soap - if the opposing team is on the offensive and hits him hard, he begins to look much more ordinary. But you can't just dismiss him as a nothing player.

      Obama Bin Laden - 2011-06-21 09:25

      @Ace - I think he's made an even bigger b!tch of you

      Rob van den Heuvel - 2011-06-21 09:31

Ace is worse than an SBW groopie!

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-21 09:50

      Go Obama!!! Go Rob!!!

      Obama Bin Laden - 2011-06-21 10:49

      Thanks b!tch

      Frik - 2011-06-21 11:30

Michelle your racism is unasked for...

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-20 23:27

20 Years on and some people still can't accept the fact that we are all equal. Some just more equal than others.

      Michelle - 2011-06-20 23:48

That's a joke right??? Sharks motto! BELIEVE #sharksforever

      Ace Ventura - 2011-06-21 00:02

      Marcell - 2011-06-21 06:01

With all the ancESTORAL influence around even rugby is corrupt!

      Frik - 2011-06-21 11:31

@Mic If the Sharks support racism they should be banned and replaced with the Master Kings of the Eastern Cape...

  • Karoobloed - 2011-06-21 00:47

That is the right attitude, because the alternative would be fear - the Saders, as usual, is an awesome side.

      Karoobloed - 2011-06-21 06:53

I am of course hoping for a Sharks win, and ultmately a Stormers win.

  • Paull Davis - 2011-06-21 00:52

  • John.L - 2011-06-21 01:38

Good to see the Bulls supporters being true to form! Bet they would be whingeing like hell if they had won and any Shark supporter said they'd support the 'saders! No problem really as a Sharkie I'd prefer the Bulls to support the 'Saders anyway. Don't need them at all!!! Hoping to catch the Sahrks / Reds match at Suncorp next week - big ask that it is!!

      Marcell - 2011-06-21 02:32

  • Claude - 2011-06-21 05:34

For the good of Rugby the authorities must take immediate strong action against the people who are such cowardly bad sports that use lasers. If they are even found with one on them they must be banned from Rugby Stadiums for life. A leaf should be taken out of FIFAs books where if the offending teams supporters are unruly the team gets fined.

      Marcell - 2011-06-21 06:02

Sjoe, wat gaan die Bulle met al die geld maak?

      Chillipeppa - 2011-06-21 09:13

Well said. Its also up to the people sitting next to someone trying to blind a player with laser to say something to them.

  • Shadow - 2011-06-21 07:29

Sharks can do it, if they do I think some of these oaks will be too ashamed to come back on here, might as well close their accounts. Sonny Bill was very good in beginning, he was new, no one knew his playing style, now people do, therefore not so much of a deadly centre. Think you lost Ace, if you want to support your precious crusaders I'll get a .nz forum link for you? ktnxbi

  • Vincent Cheese - 2011-06-21 07:29

Hmmm wanted to wish the Sharks best of luck, but I see three little trolls have come out to play. Just is ignore these three idiots, as they contribute nothing with their moronic attitude. I support South African teams even if they come from that dump of a City Pretoria. Was there recently and had to go bath myself the place was so filthy. The suburbs was very nice, but the city. Sis man, clean it up. For a moment there I thought I was back in the 70's...Maybe that is why they suffer from inferiority complexes and feel the need to come insult superior Cities. Anyways I wish the Sharks the best of luck, would love to see you here in Cape Town in the final and may the best team win the final. I know wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be great?

      Frik - 2011-06-21 11:52

@Kaas waarvan praat jy? Jou ik was nog altyd in die 70's...

  • QuadroSkept - 2011-06-21 07:40

i was tryna get that strong light in his eye. was difficult. only managed to focus on the iris for 300ms at a time cause this dumb ass Sharks supporter kept getting up in my face about it. Even gave me a lumbie and a dead leg. Think he thought it was a fight

  • Anneleen - 2011-06-21 08:11

  • Tombstone - 2011-06-21 10:51

The only way the Sharks players will get into the final is to buy tickets for the final ...har har har..

      Shadow - 2011-06-21 12:50

omw, such fail dude, that was a joke made for the bulls Saturday evening! LOL

  • Eros82 - 2011-06-21 14:06

@Frik, the only thing Morne Steyn can do is kick, he has no vision and is not a "playmaker". His rugby is one-dimensional just like the rest of the Bulls. Pat Lambie may not kick as well as Steyn, but his general gameplay is better even though he is inexperienced. Give Lambie 2 years...Steyn won't even be around then.

  • haha - 2011-06-21 14:08

Lambie is good, but a choker!

      Wayne Hawkey - 2011-06-21 14:22

he didnt choke against anyone this year, except for the last game... so hard to tag a guy a choker when he gets a man of the match performance

  • ikey_tiger - 2011-06-21 20:10

what time is the Bulls game again? I really dont want to miss it..
