Sharks call up young gun

Durban - The Sharks have picked youngster Sean Robinson at wing for their Super Rugby clash against the Stormers at Newlands on Saturday.

Robinson, 19, scored the match-winning try for the Sharks XV against SWD in the Vodacom Cup last weekend.

Robinson replaces Odwa Ndungane, who pulled up with a hamstring strain against the Crusaders last weekend. Ndungane responded well to treatmant this week but will play off the bench.

Springbok loose forward forward Ryan Kankowski is also back after a few weeks on the bench, in the only other change to the run-on XV. He takes over from Jacques Botes who broke his arm in last week's clash, while Jean Deysel returns on the bench after several weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem.

“Sean is a youngster in his second year at the Sharks Academy and looks to have all the attributes of being a really good footballer,” coach John Plumtree said via statement released to the media on Wednesday.

“It’s a great opportunity for him and we’ve placed no pressure on him to have a big game, just that he goes out and enjoys the experience. We’re hoping he has a good game and that he plays many more games for the Sharks.

“Losing Jacques Botes with the form that he was in is a big blow for us, but we’re very happy to have Jean Deysel coming back in. He was playing really good rugby before he got injured and his return is a timely boost for us.

“Against the Stormers you need that physicality and he’ll come off the bench and provide that.”

The clash at Newlands kicks off at 17:05 on Saturday.
