Reds keep Highlanders winless

Cape Town - The Reds have kept the Highlanders winless after beating the Dunedin-based New Zealand franchise in their Super Rugby clash on Friday.

The Reds won 34-33 after leading 21-16 at half-time.

The Reds scored four tries through hooker James Hanson, flank Liam Gill, No 8 Jake Schatz and scrumhalf Will Genia. Flyhalf Quade Cooper was on target with all four conversions as well as two penalties.

The Highlanders replied with three tries by No 8 Elliot Dixon, wing Hosea Gear and centre Ma'a Nonu. Flyhalf Colin Slade kicked a conversion and three penalties, while replacement Lima Sopoaga added a further two conversions and a penalty.

The Reds picked up a full-house of five points for their victory to consolidate their second place in the Australian Conference and fourth position in the Overall standings.

The Highlanders had to be content with a single point for losing by seven or fewer points and remained not only the only winless team in their year's tournament, but bottom of both the New Zealand Conference and Overall log.

In next weekend's Round 8 action, the Reds will enjoy a bye while the Highlanders travel to Auckland to face the Blues.
